JDownloader - Download manager

This is just a quick post recommending JDownloader, a very helpful download manager for Rapidshare and Megaupload files. It's especially useful if you don't have a Premium account for those sites. As I only post Rapidshare links on this site, make your life easier and download JDownloader or a similar program.

The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974)

A fast-paced, colorful adaptation of Mordecai Richler's novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz follows the title character, played by Richard Dreyfuss, as he plots and schemes to make it in the Jewish community of Montreal, getting Randy Quaid and Denholm Elliott involved in the action. The Academy Award-nominated movie was one of the most popular Canadian films of all-time. Leonard Maltin's Guide gave the film 3 1/2 stars. This copy of the film is pan-and-scan.

To Die in Madrid (Mourir à Madrid) (1963)

A classic documentary, Mourir à Madrid mixes footage by war correspondents and footage shot by the director in 1960's Francoist Spain to explore the Spanish Civil War. The film alternates between montages featuring indignant, information-packed narration and scenes where the haunting images carry the whole message. Especially powerful are the stories of the International Brigades, the child refugees, the cruel response to the Basque defense, and Miguel de Unamuno's denunciation of General Astray and his followers. Maurice Jarre is responsible for the minimalist, elegiac score.

The film was given an English language narration by John Gielgud (not included here). It went on to be nominated for an Oscar and to win a BAFTA award. Leonard Maltin's Guide gives the film 4 stars.
